Silica Textiles

Refrasil textiles for industrial use are continuous filament, amorphous silica products with the thermal performance of a refractory material. They are produced by the chemical leaching of glass fibers, resulting in almost pure silica (SiO2) in the 8 to 10 micron size range

  • Continuous use temperature = 1,800F
  • Melting temperature = 3,100 F
  • Excellent resistance to thermal shock
  • Inert to many chemicals
  • Refrasil is also an outstanding high temperature electrical insulator
Dielectric strength of Refrasil products is 40 volts per mil of thickness.

WGC-18 (Welding Grade Cloth) has excellent strength retention at high temperature UC series cloths are stronger at room temperature and are easier to fabricate (sew) with.
Both the WGC and UC series provide excellent insulation protection from molten metal splash,spark, flame and temperature


TREATED CLOTHS

Abrasion Resistant (AR) Refrasil is treated with a special coating that provides additional abrasion resistance. (Coating burns off at approx 350ºF)

Irish Series Refrasil incorporate a proprietary chromium coating -Extends the service temperature from 1800º F to 2200° F. 2221 Irish has a latex based coating to decrease dusting.

Preshunk Refrasil is heat treated for stability at temperatures to 1800°F

Irish Cloth Slit Tape

Woven Tapes also come in 3 forms

Standard Woven Tape
.015" thick, 1" or 1.5" wide

Preshrunk Woven Tape

Wide Woven Tape
